In 1995, Jay-Z co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records with partners Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke.  In late 2004, Jay-Z, Dame Dash and Biggs sold their remaining interests in Roc-A-Fella Records and the label was retained as an Island Def Jam imprint. Soon thereafter Jay-Z was appointed the new President and CEO of Def Jam Recordings by Island Def Jam chairman L. A. Reid.
